Introducing a new version of the Basic Dress Block Sewing Pattern - the perfect tool for creating your own tailored blouses, shirts, tops, and dresses. This multi-sized pattern is designed for woven fabrics and is available as a digital download.
In this latest version of the pattern, customer feedback has been carefully considered. Enhancements have been made to accommodate larger sizes more comfortably. Additionally, the upper portion of the sleeve has been broadened for an improved fit.
Drafted using the Mueller & Sohn pattern making method, this basic block is designed with the difference between bust and underbust measurements in mind, ensuring a more accurate fit. With a sloper designed for a standard figure with a B/C cup bust, this pattern may differ from some industrial size charts. Please refer to the measurement charts included in the product pictures. Note that these are the body measurements, not the measurements of the ready product.
This set of basic dress blocks is available in different heights, with this specific sloper made for a height of 174 cm (5' 8 1/2"). It's important to match your unique torso length measurement, so if your back length is shorter or longer than the size table, consider choosing a pattern drafted for a different height. The back length for this block is 41,5 cm (16 5/16''). Make the perfect garment with ease thanks to the four darts included in this block, two at the front (bust and waist), and two at the back (shoulder and waist).
This basic block is drafted for a fitted dress with a sleeve. It has a 4,5 cm (1 3/4'') of ease around the bust area and 1,5 cm (9/16'') ease added to waist and hip. The sleeve has 5-10 % ease added to the cap. This means that the total length of the sleeve cap curve has to be that much longer than the lengths of the front and back armholes added together.

Before cutting the final fabric, it is important to make a muslin (test garment) to check the fit and make any necessary adjustments. This will help ensure a great fit and save time and fabric in the long run.
Overall, the basic dress block is a versatile and essential tool for those who want to create their own custom-fit garments. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced sewer, this pattern will help you achieve a perfect fit and make garments that are tailored to your unique body shape. Happy sewing!
